Late last year, Queensland University of Technology dug a little deeper into a sex study back in 2016. Researchers found that of the1,500 women and 3,000 men surveyed that the personality of the guys made quite an impact on sexual preferences. 

Guys that were more outgoing or extroverted with a more balanced emotional level had more sex. Turns out, it’s a turn on for a guy to be outgoing, aware of others and generally mentally stable. 

This should come as zero surprise to any guy out there that has dated. It’s the one that comes of as confident (even if he’s not), will listen to his date’s story about her co-worker that is out to get her and is not a psycho. It’s not a tall order just dating 101. 

Like it or not, truly confident or not, guys that exude confidence and are mentally stable get laid more. Women see these personality traits are safe which means they are more likely to go home with them.

The study did not specify if men felt the same way but I can tell you from personal experience that some of the hottest women I have dated were not mentally stable.

The gyms are packed this time of year and you can expect to wait a bit longer to grab those free weights or jump on the machine. While hitting the gym is the go-to way get to work strengthening those abs and building those muscles, you may want to consider hitting a yoga studio as well.

That’s right. I got a chance to try out my first class with my girlfriend and let’s just say…mind blown and the benefits extend beyond the eye candy in class (most women are stripped down to just a sports bra and tight yoga pants). 

Here are four reasons and takeaways from attending my first yoga class as a guy.

Did I mention eye candy?   When the class first started I had a hard time focusing in on holding and letting out my breath nevermind warrior pose. The women in yoga classes are flexible, bending over backwards and feel comfortable enough to strip down to tight pants and just a kind-off sporty bra top. I eventually got comfortable enough to be around them but it was a bonus right from the start. 

Increased my range of motion.  I didn’t notice until two days later when I was at the gym mid bi-cep curl that it was easier to move and with less stiffness. Turns out, all the standing tree and back bending loosened me up enough to kill it (in a good way) on weights. The movements and positions that you do during yoga also lengthen mucles in a way that can’t be done when you are doing repetitive exercises at the gym. 

Catching my breath.  Full disclosure? I pay ZERO attention to my breathing unless I am doing reps and using breathing to count. But the practice of just breathing over and over again actually helped me during cardio. I felt that I could pull in more breath and let it out. While the practice of breathing in yoga class wasn’t my favorite, it helped me to keep up my energy level during a run. 

Better sex life.   If my gifrlfriend had told me this sooner I would have hit the yoga studio with her years ago. Instead, I was approached by the yoga instructor/teacher at the end of class and explained how and why yoga improves your sex life. One big reason is a more toned pelvic muscle. In fact, there is a 2011 study from the Journal of Sexual Medicine that goes deeper into the many benefits. 

While yoga will never replace my gym workout I am always down for all the other benefits that come with it. So the next time your girlfriend or spouse bugs you about going to yoga with them shock the shit out of them and show up—your body will thank you for it later.

ED is a big f’in deal for guys. And as you might have guessed those participating that forked over their medical records had either been diagnosed with ED or treated for it. 

Remember how I mentioned shedding some pounds and erections? Well, that was the gene that the study highlighted. In particular, its the gene that has everything to do with getting hard—hard muscles, a hard erection and regulating your weight. 

It wasn’t a big surprise to medical professionals that genes do impact your erections. I mean, they impact whether you end up bald or fighting baldness and resorting to a combover.

However, what was EXCITING news was that scientists and your doctor may know why certains prescription medications such as Viagra have fallen short when it comes to treating ED in those with low testosterone. 

Of the 50% of guys that have ruled out other issues and still suffer from ED, the silver lining is that genetic-based treatments are on the horizon.

The survey, aptly named, Everybody Poops and Farts took a closer look at how our men and women really feel about farts, how we try hiding them and other oddities like people that get turned on by them.

Considering that both men and women fart at least 20 times a day, we’re all on this together.

How guys try to mask a fart—

  • 75 percent try the ol’ go-to: holding it in
  • 58 percent slip off to another room 
  • 54 percent head out to the great outdoors 
  • 25 percent try to create a distraction by hiding it with noise such as making a fart sound with your mouth.

I can recall countless dates (usually following a dinner out at a Mexican restaurant) where one false move and a million farts would explode. Most people and I assumed my dates would be grossed-out or even replused by flatulence. And personally speaking, the feeling is mutual when my date farts. 

This makes sense since the survey points to an average of 6.5 months before a guy cracks one in front of his partner—on purpose. Women wait an estimated 1.3 years

Guys wait 6.5 months on average to fart in front of their girlfriend or partner.  Women tend to take longer, waiting on average 1.3 YEARS. 

Now, let’s get to those in the survey that apparently are real freaks and get turned on by a fart. It’s a mere 11 percent for guys and 3 percent of women that think it’s hot. Anything over 1 percent is nasty and the survey also cited that 28 percent of guys have ruined the mood after cracking one while in bed with their partner.

Compliment.  It seems corny and clique to kick off the night with a compliment on her shoes, dress or her smile but leading with just the old standby, “you look great” goes a long way. Consult your dictionary for more creative adjectives prior to your date.

DO bring mints and floss.  Slip some floss and mints in your pocket…it’s better to have them with you than not. Just don’t floss your teeth at the table. No, just…no. 

Show some interest.  Even if she is talking non-stop about the cat videos that her roommate makes and has a strong following on YouTube try to act interested. If the conversation continues to only center around cats see if you can’t persuade her to tell you more about her job or here’s an ice-breaker—ask her about her boss.

Truth be told, as a red-blooded male, I am always down to have sex on the first date even if I find my date annoying and unattractive. I know, I know…I realize it makes me a bit of a dog but the final decision is always left up to her and my answer is always, yes. 

Back in the day, having sex on the first date (mostly for girls) was a social faux pas. But times they are a changin’ according to a recent survey released by the dating site, OkCupid. 

Here is one glaring takeaway from this survey that every guy should know that will make you feel a little better about that first date. In fact, she is more likely to be DTF than you think. 

A whopping 46% of OkCupid users said they would have sex on the first date. That’s nearly 50% of female and male respondents. 

The numbers don’t lie and point to a different overall attitude about how our society views casual sex. In fact, if you have no plans on seeing that person again or at least not planning solid plans to do so—it’s casual sex. Well, at least in the moment. 

The numbers point to a more relaxed and honest view to sex rather then intercourse becoming the-BE-ALL-END-ALL. It might have taken at least 50 years, but perhaps, we are finally past the unfair stigma attached to sex and dating. 

This is not to say that sex doesn’t matter. I remember hooking up on a first date and entering into a long-term relationship with a girl when we were both in our early twenties. And maybe that is what has evolved. Instead of treating sex like it’s all that matters, it becomes just part of the dating world and before a commitment is yet to be made. 

Perhaps, the biggest reason for this shift in how we weigh the cost of sexual intercourse while dating is best measured and changed by the level of honesty and dare I say it, the feminist movement that woman can enjoy sex without commitments as well—which is fine with me.
